We’ve seen the 1950’s book encouraging women to “Prepare yourself. Take 15 minutes to rest so you’ll be refreshed when he arrives. Touch up your makeup, put a ribbon in your hair and be fresh-looking.”

I’ve spoken on the subject in regards to tattooing:
“...women still have that bias against our bodies. That it’s not necessarily ours, it’s society’s and so what we do with our bodies, what clothes we wear, how we decorate ourselves still is really heavily influenced by what other people think that women should do.“

Recently, I posted on LInkedIn the need to eliminate Cold Shoulder garments from the workplace. Claiming that it is not a professional look. It is not. It is a casual OR special occasion look. I have had 5k people view the post and over 50 likes. Check out the conversation HERE.

I would like to be clear in my thoughts on this matter. Not soley in repsonse to this gentleman’s comment, but for the women who feel defensive and the school leadership teams who explain dress code inappropriately and all of American society:
We need dress codes to teach young and old people how to dress by occasion; for safety; and just plain appropriateness. Like it or not, apparel affects the way we present ourselves and wordlessly, yet loudly, tells others who we are and what we stand for.
Fast Fashion has changed how Americans show pride in themselves. There is thoughtless spending, abundance of junk, and lives are being ruined/our environment is being destroyed by our lack of pride in our appearance.
This has absolutely NOTHING to do with males opinions or their ability to focus on tasks at hand. Schools and workplaces need to CEASE this ridiculous notion. Instead, teach women and men how to take pride in themselves and live with less.
We are so lucky to live in America where we have choices. We are lucky for our many freedoms. We must remember not to lose ourselves in ambiguity.
I chose this career to help people find confidence; learn to love themselves; show the world who they are on the inside. I sincerely believe that just like riding a bike, we must be taught and keep practicing. I’m here to help in anyway I can.
